George Zimmerman Said “Fucking Cold” or “Fucking Punks” (updated)

Latino Yes!  Martin  was suspended from school and was only visting his Dad,  that was why Zimmerman was trying to find out what he was doing in that complex. Martin was a 6 foot 3" 17 yr. old big guy with tatoos on both arms and a Gold Grille with a Internet name of No Limit Nigga (not the picture you have seen on tv) , and was pissed when another guy confronted him about being in a place that he was visting caus he didnt recognize him. There had been Gangs dressed in Black Hoods that had been vandalizing the complex!  Remember he was staying with his dad while suspended from school.  I am sure Zimmerman asked him what he had in his Hand and i am sure Martin told him some skiddles and a Soft drink and then asked  the 6 foot 3 guy how old are you?. Get real! He probably attacked Zimmerman first and being frightened by a guy of his Martins stature defended himself, by pulling his gun and shooting him! Thats Bad and a shame for a Young Man do die that way but from all accounts Martin was no Choir boy either!  

 markranger actually to a floridian, it would have been considered cold, it was 50's-60's, raining for most part all day, with a 5-10mph wind, granted i live in iowa, our version of cold would be a hell of alot colder, but to a floridian, it would have seemed cold to them

While I am sure that this means there WON'T be an arrest, is it possible that there is some evidence heretofore unknown to the public that would all but prove GZ guilty of something??

I think it means that they know that all the loopholes and technicalities that could be twisted and slanted in the SYG laws are too much for the average jurror to "weigh" over how they feel about in this situation. I also think it means that unless she got some absolutely DAMNING evidence from a new EYE witness or something, that she cannot bring charges in this case and make anything stick.

 Conway193 Thanks for your feedback.  I only have to stretch my imagination a little to hear "kungs".  The K is a lot closer than the G.  Say most any word that ends in NS and you can hear and feel that the N ends in low frequencies right before it has to shift to the high frequencies of the S.  This stacatto change is what makes it possible to hear a G.   I suspect that if I found known NGS, GS, and/or NS words in his speech, we would be able to see and hear the difference.  My ear definitely hears "coons".

 I can't imagine how anyone can hear "punks," especially someone who is an expert. Any linguists reading? As mentioned above,it is a nasal ending on the word, and if you listen to the entire recording, you will hear this sound over and over, especially in the word "somthin.'" This could be due in part to the fact that he is chewing gum or something similar during the call. A "P" could cause a slight distortion on a mic or phone, just as a "B" can, because they are explosive consonants which are formed with the lips, i.e., directly next to the microphone. But a "K" or hard "C" will not, because it is formed at the back of the throat, therefore no true expert could confound the two, and this word clearly begins with "K" or hard "C." Now for the middle of the word: clearly a long U sound as in "do" or "too," (phonetic symbol u:) not the short U sound in "fun" or "punks." (phonetic symbol ʌ) Back to the end of the word: if you pronounce "punks" yourself, you will see that the "N" sound is not drawn out. The K cuts it off; in fact, the N is almost dropped. So this can't be the pronounced drawn out nasal sound discussed above. The word is without a doubt: "Coon."

 One more point: this audio "improvement" by "experts" does nothing to improve the clarity. Especially the censoring bleep disturbs any chance of concentrated listening. Which leads me to believe it was intentionally disrupted, rather than improved. And the best recording which was found on YouTube has been withdrawn...hmmmm....and CNN was promoting this viewpoint? And the popup that comes during their clip: "EXPERT: SUSPECT WHISPERED `PUNKS``Didn't use racial slur before shooting teen" as well as the heading on CNN online: "Lawyers: Zimmerman whispered 'punks' before shooting Trayvon Martin" all present these statements in a way which can mislead. Contrast: "Lawyers claim Zimmerman whispered "punks", not "coons"

 Conway193  MichaelSorg Finally, someone else is interested in what GZ said mainly because we have an interest in this area (phonemes/syllables), more than the overall shooting topic.  He also is approaching it from a completely different background of knowledge.  And yet we both say it is  "coons" based merely on the sound.  I can't say it is absolutely clearly different than "kongs" or  "goons", but only clearly different than kongs and only moderately distinguishable from goons.  Given the context that "coons" fits so perfect (chasing, gun in hand, a fast black kid at night) rather than running away from big fat white mobster types (goons), I'd say it's ridiculous to suggest there is any other possibility.  His anger in accenting the "C" in coons is what makes it sound a little bit like a "G".  "WE" don't know for sure what he said because some of us in the "WE" are in denial, or not familiar with southern vernacular.

As to that, unless there is ANY evidence that GZ has used racial slurs in the past, the civil rights case is as done a deal in GZ's favor as the self-defense case.
